There are several things you can do to deter mosquitoes. For starters, do not keep standing pools of water around your home. Mosquitoes prefer to lay their eggs in or near water. If you have rain barrels or a pool, keep them covered up when they aren’t in use. Clean your rain gutters regularly to prevent water from backing up around your house. If you have outdoor toys or birdbaths that collect water, empty them regularly. Mosquitoes don’t need large amounts of water to breed. They can lay eggs even in smaller spaces, such as your pet food bowls and water bottles left around your property. They also like weeds and brush. To deter mosquitoes, keep your lawn mown and trim weeds around your property.
You can also use scented candles and torches around your yard to deter mosquitoes. Insect repellent sprays can also be highly effective. Follow all instructions on product labels.
Sometimes mosquitoes will come indoors. However, you can deter them from coming inside by using an oscillating fan on your porches and patios. These fans make it difficult for mosquitoes to fly past them. You should also install door screens and window screens to prevent mosquitoes from entering your home.
