Cockroach Control

Cockroaches are disgusting pests. They spread germs when they crawl over your living spaces or your food. These bugs are also associated with dirty living conditions and poor sanitation. Your houseguests will likely be repulsed if they see bugs crawling around your home. Cockroaches carry bacteria and viruses that can infect humans. Cholera, typhoid fever, dysentery, salmonellosis and gastroenteritis are just a few of the most common diseases carried by cockroaches. These pests also breed quickly, which means you can have a huge infestation in just a few months.

Common Signs of a Cockroach Infestation

If you have a cockroach infestation, you will probably notice small black dots or tiny pellets around your home. These dark spots are cockroach feces. You will also notice living or dead cockroaches crawling around your property. Some cockroaches fly, so you may see a flying cockroach on your property. Cockroaches sometimes leave behind brown smear marks, especially in areas where there is moisture. The bugs will shed their skins, too. One cockroach may shed its skin as many as eight times as it matures. Some types of cockroaches also give off an odor that is often described as either musty or sweet. A very pungent odor is often an indication of a large infestation. If you notice these signs of cockroaches, call Arete Pest Control for help. It’s best to get help as soon as you notice you have a problem. Waiting to treat the problem will only allow the bugs to multiply.

Tips to Prevent Future Cockroach Infestations

What cockroaches want from your home is food, water and a good habitat for breeding. They prefer dark and damp areas. Like most critters, they need water and food to survive. To prevent future infestations, eliminate food sources. Don’t let dirty dishes pile up in your kitchen sink. Wash your dishes after each meal. You should also clean any food particles from your kitchen sink at least once per day. Clean out your toasters and other kitchen appliances so that you don’t entice roaches with food crumbs. Store your food pantry items in closed containers to make it more difficult for roaches to access them. Store your trash in a trash container with a tight-fitting lid on it. Take out your kitchen trash whenever it is full or whenever you have smelly food in it.

Cockroaches also need moisture to survive. You should repair or replace any leaking pipes around your home.

Cockroaches thrive in cluttered homes where they have many places to hide. To help keep roaches out of your home, declutter your property. Get rid of unwanted or broken appliances. Limit your eating to one dining area in your home. If you eat all over your home, you will inadvertently drop crumbs everywhere. Cockroaches prefer warm and dark habitats, but they will venture outside those areas in search of food.
